CONSCIOUSXCHANGE (CXC) is a racial equity-focused leadership and business coaching and consulting company for BIPOC professionals who value diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), justice and belonging, the pursuit of social and economic freedom for racialized communities, and liberation for everyone.
When Carissa Begonia (founder) approached me with a request to create a pattern design that represents CXC, I took the opportunity to research the organization's mission and the value that it brings to its community. From my discovery, I extracted the X symbol from the official logo and turned it into a double helix form, which represents the unique DNA in each and every one that should be celebrated.
From speaking with Carissa, I could sense how important her work was to her and how deeply she resonated with her mission. Being a second-generation immigrant in the US, she dedicated her career to helping other BIPOC professionals reach their fullest potential no matter the challenges they face.
As someone who loves anthropological stories and what makes us human, it felt fitting to me to make sure that small, unassuming symbols play an important role in all brands. That is how the CXC double helix pattern came about.
At first glance, it isn't noticeable, but if asked, an important story and message can be shared.
